Mucsle is heavier than fat. It's a bit late but see if you can get one of hte trainers or other pros at the gym to test your body fat percentage. Then test it again in a couple months. You should see an apprecaible difference.
Good luck on the workout regimen and congrats on quitting.

adlist that's what they are telling me
Tommi I only lost 3 lbs the first month of diet and exercise - it was very frustrating but the most important thing is that you FEEL better... I noticed clothes started to fit better too even if the scale was not moving down.
It's really frustrating. Just keep at it - you are adding years to your life and you'll feel better for the years you are around being in shape.

be patient.
if it's only been a month you've been converting fat to muscle.
if you gained 25 lbs from munching, you have some work to do but be patient.
if it's been five months the munchies craving will start to diminish and it will be easier to control your weight. but for me that was about a year.
have you noticed you have way more endurance and energy though?
did I mention be patient? your on the right track.

Try not to obsess over the numbers on the scale . How do your pants fit...?
Muscle is heavier than fat. You might not notice the weight loss, but your clothing may start to fit better. Keep at it. Before I became an "official" AARP member, I decided to kick off a few pounds. It took almost a month before I lost even a pound! I was watching my diet AND on the treadmill too. It was discouraging, but you have to hang in there!
Your metabolism does slow down a bit when you quit smoking. Rick quit smoking about 11 years ago. He too found some weight after he quit, and managed to kick off most of it, but it took a while, and as with the rest of us, a few pounds find their way back...
Not smoking is the #1 health improvement you can do for yourself. A few extra pounds is very unlikely to kill you. Smoking on the other hand..........

Gotta change the diet.
I have the same issue. Example: This past summer I bike to work 3-4 times a week (only about 30 minutes each way) and I would generally go out for a morning bike on either Sat-Sun for about 30-45 minutes. During this time I manage to lose 0 lbs.
I do however like to drink beer, eat Nachos, put cream & sugar in my coffee, and consume cold cut subs for lunch.
The last time I changed my diet I managed to lose 30 lbs, I however don't seem to enjoy dieting. I love crappy food too much. I did however make one change, which I attribute to keeping the 30lbs from coming back: No beer in the house. I only buy it when I'm out and about and then I drink in moderation.
Wine is another story
