Someone explain 5/10, 9/10 Driving?
Possibly a stupid question, but I hear a lot of drivers, S2000 and otherwise, speak about driving at "5/10ths" or "8/10ths" or whatever. Can someone explain how one would "know" how hard one is pushing their vehicle? I've done some "spirited" drving with some in this group as well as other clubs and there is always someone harping about "9/10ths" driving skills. Been wondering about this for some time. Thanks in advance for the clarification....

In a nut shell... driving 11/10ths is going over your driving limit and you're either spun out in a ditch, or worse.
Driving 9/10ths and even 10/10ths of your ability is extremely hard to find... and takes a lot of driving time to keep it there. At that point you're hitting apexes correctly and fully understand driving dynamics.
Run Autocrosses, take driving school track events. Get as much track time as possible. Learning on public roads is dangerous and you'll never find out the limits of your car correctly.
I hope this helps.
