It's ok he was a cop...
Too bad he didn't nail a pedestrian trying to catch Mr. Pedophile

Gotcha! Authorities now know exactly where their man is. He's seven miles away, on the other side of town. It's 11:02 a.m.
Ergas guns his unmarked sport utility vehicle at 95 miles per hour through downtown Atlanta, zipping in and out of the city's notorious traffic congestion.
"I've got no place in my heart for pedophiles," he says, pressing down harder on the gas. The vehicle thrusts forward.

I know I would love to take one of thouse training courses, and doing 95 probably on a highway at 11 at night is not all that unsafe to me. and as bass said at least he had a point i don't get why even cops do 90 with no lights and no real reason. jeff did make a point of they could be going towards someone for a backup if needed.
What happened Mike, get pulled over today, or someone piss in your Wheaties this morning?

I agree for once with Bass, they were trying to get a guy who diddled a kid. In a few years down the line when you have a kid, I would be willing to bet that not only would you be OK with that cop doing whatever it takes to get the MF'er, but you would want to be the guy who catches him yourself.

Jeff,
Not to be a butthead here, but how much training behind the wheel do you guys get? And how often do you have to re-qualify? I ask because I once worked with a guy who completed the "Ohio Peace Officer" course/license test. His class trained for one day in a parking lot with a rented car. There was more emphasis on reversing using the mirrors than on high-speed pursuit. Unfortunately, we have quite a history of fatal accidents caused by police officers chasing perpetrators who would have gotten off with a slap on the wrist had they been caught before the cruiser hit a civilian vehicle.

if the scum bag raped my kid i'd want the police to do 150 mph to catch the guy and remember they are trained to drive

No jeff, no special bitterness today. Just ridiculous how they get the special OK to speed. I could spend thousands on defensive driving and hi-perf training and it would do me no good without a badge.

Consider the guy was at work I'd say he put countless people in unnecessary danger to save 2.6 minutes. It's not like the guy was in his car fleeing and had a 7 mile head start.

not to be objectionable in this but I'm going to guess that mr. journalist was taking a bit of poetic license.
as you pointed out mike. 7.7 miles = 4.4 minutes. but this guy didn't get there for 15 minutes.
