Default town tax increases

wtf over ride after over ride

again i am going to town meeting again tomorrow to vote against the $15,000,000 new police station and the $500,000 payment for a study to see if we need a new k-6 school and some other $$$$ for crap we don't need

you know it's just gonna be me against 900 stay at home mothers who have nothing better to do than scream "oh the children - think about the children"

One lady had the balls to write - if you just give up your Lattes for a year you can cover the increase - lady i gave those up a LONG time ago phucktard!!

i say F um - pay as you go

ya know bass is right on this one, we continually get raped and have to pare back in our lives but the powers that be spend spend spend freely. If we pare back anymore after absorbing the recent energy prices and the spike in inflation it is causing we will all be sitting at home heating with candles eating ramen noodles. Yes i know that is not the case but think about it fiscal responsibilty needs to start at the top not the bottom as us on the bottom have been fiscally responsible for a long time now.. we need to be to survive!

Municipalities are just plain stupid. The city next door to me, and the one I live in, are referred to as "the twin cities". WRONG! A couple of months ago the local paper did an article on potholes. My city fills them as they happen, with "hot" patch that seals into the hole. The city next door uses "cold" patch that disintegrates in no time at all. So they keep going back and refilling the same holes until finally they have no choice but to tear up the damn section of road and repave it. WTF are they using cold patch for to begin with?

A buddy of mine in that city awoke one morning in DECEMBER to the sound of lawnmowers. He looked across the street and there in the city park were DPW workers MOWING THE FREAKING GRASS. IN DECEMBER. And the streets are filthy and falling apart. WTF??

Interestingly, my city has budget surpluses year after year, a nice rainy day fund, little to no tax increases year after year, clean streets and painted crosswalks. Next door, they are about to close the library, lay off God knows how many cops and firefighters, and cut the Senior Center back a day or two each week. And the City Council is arguing about why the new Mayor calls her Admin. Asst. her "Chief of Staff". TWIN CITIES? I think not.

End of rant.

And probably not in that order.

How long do you expect the town to work on a small budget Steve?

The people in my town have been bithcing forever to the point where we needed a new fire station and poilice station to bring us up to date with the 1940's.

They finally parsed it down and got a new fire station approved which ammounts to a big garage to park the truck and nothing more

The police station still gets shot down.

But, everyone wants to be safe from fire and crime

things cost money. we all have to pay at some point.

16 million doesn't buy much these days. Those damned fire trucks take a lot of diesel and the crusiers don't run on bottled water.

Low taxes are nice, but you get what you pay for in services. My town is one of the most stingy there is, and I worry that it is not worth it sometimes. Safety is not something you want to gamble with. When you need it, it HAS to be ready. Pay now or pay later.
