From what I understand from other people who've had to deal with insurance at the track, most of the larger carriers (Progressive, Geico, etc) cover "Driver education" events. Why wouldn't they? They're designed to develop driving skills in a much safer environment than city streets. They do not, however, cover competitive events - whether competing against other drivers, or competing against the clock.

If you're really worried, just purchase track insurance for the event and you're covered.

^ Truth. This is exactly why BMW CCA is so adiment about not allowing "timing devices" because that just rings home competition.

I like the idea but only from the basis of really knowing what my car can do without looking out for constables........
So far, I have only got my baby up to 110 with the top down, wow what a draft........zoooooooom..

Cool, I've never seen a pic of the Rex on track! There was a bunch of those in one of the SCCA runoff events on Speed (they have been reshowing)...

Not sure how I missed seeing SCCA the first time around but they are still good 4 months later
