Confusion about Roll bars and Road Courses
Hey All,
I hope all is going well. Just a quick question if you don't mind. Do you require a roll bar to do open lapping events in Ontario? Lets say at Cayuga, or similar? I've been getting mixed answers from people. Some say the stock "roll hoops" are fine, but my gut tells me not. I want to start tracking the car and doing autocross events now.
thanks in advance,
-Jorden

Its not the track usually that denies you access but the party running the event.
For example, if you show up to an Ian Law Track Day (prerequisite is that you must have attended their school), they don't care and they run DDT.
Touge.ca doesn't care either as long as you pay. They run out of DDT, SMP, TMP, etc.
On the other hand, if you try to show up to any TRACK events by CASC (eg: SPDA), they will not allow stock roll hoops to participate. This is why I got my hard dog roll bar in order to participate in Ontario Time Attack and SPDA lapping days.
Hope that clarifies things.

Not quite true. You need a helmet if the car is a convertible. If you have a hard top on your S2K, then you don't need a helmet.
Having said that, my own view is that you're nuts not to wear a helmet whatever kind of car you're driving on any track.

- you have a convertible with a soft top
- you have a roll cage
- you have a roll bar in front of the driver
- either one of the driver or passenger is wearing one
I also agree, people are insane for not having one. Cost is less than most car parts I know of and my head >>> any car part.

for casual lapping a roll bar isn't required generally.
but most good serious events worth their salt require one. Like CASC-OR/FIA Canada sanctioned events.
Roll bars are cool and badass lol and going on high consequence tracks like CTMP Grand Prix gives you piece of mind for safety.

ahh ok. I was there last week and noticed none of the BMW guys had helmets. But ya, hardtop.
And I agree you're crazy not to wear one. Shit happens. Faster on a track.
