Borrowing one of theirs does not bother me really. I already have 2 helmets for snowmobiling, but they are just DOT and not Snell. I really don't wanna buy a 3rd helmet!

Having an SA helmet is REQUIRED for SCDA participation, open OR closed, just not Motorcycle (M) Also required are long pants. They list long sleeve shirts as well but that has never been enforced. I got pics to prove it

Why SA vs M you might ask... here's what the experts say

SA Standard was designed for auto racing while M Standard was for motorcycling and other motorsports. There are three major differences between them:

SA standard requires flammability test while the M standard does not;

SA standard allows narrower visual field than M standard (Some SA helmets may not be street legal);

SA standard has rollbar impact test while M standard does not.
