I see what you saying but my steamer burnt me really badly. This stuff must be hot enough to kill these little bastaads.

BTW What about plastic wrap for mattresses? Does that stuff work? I've seen it at the stores.
I don't know...I know they tell parents to put kids stuffed animals in a plastic bag in the event the little darling has head lice....these critters are parasites. They can't live long without food.......bed bugs can go a longgggggg time without a host.

This is a very icky thread.

here is the problem with steam

"■Temperature is important. Steam at 120 F must hit bed bugs directly. (Editor’s note: Does 120F provide an instant kill?) If you are purchasing a steamer, the manufacturer should list a temperature at the tip of being over 200F. It may also be possible to purchase an infrared thermometer (aka infrared laser thermometer) to check your steamer temperature at tip. Stephen Doggett’s Revised Bed Bug Code of Practice (see above) says:"

Bed bugs like to hide in nooks and crannies and what's to guarantee that you got it all with steam or if you exposed it long enough to kill the bed bugs.

I saw the most effective way to killing bedbugs besides chemicals are large space heaters that pretty much bring up the room temperature to whatever is needed to kill them. that way you know they are all dead in that room.

But that is a really high temp. I'm not sure how good that is for the house and possessions.

Or your wallet .. LOL

All the stories I see of using 160deg they load everything in a car or box truck and let the sun help heat it .

You know how many BTU's it would take to heat say 1500sqft ?? Alot . Where is Jerry ? I bet he knows the math

"Bed bugs is mean and evil, won't let a poor boy get no sleep.
Bed bugs is mean and evil, won't let a poor boy get no sleep,
'cause one is holding your hand, while the other is biting your feet.

Got up in the morning, bed bug mother was startin' to pray.
Got up in the morning, bed bug mother was startin' to pray,
gets on her knees, sayin' "Lord, give my children more to eat"

Dave Van Ronk, circa 1967

Good song, contemporary problem, but it's been 40 years and I can't remember any more verses.

Scott, actually there are 2 landlords that pooled together here in my city that recently purchased the equipment to do just that. So far they have had a 100% success rate.

Here is a story regarding them, http://www.sunjournal.com/city/story/885088

Looks like they are doing it to empty homes and they say it cost more than spraying. I would like to know if it can be done to a furnished place ? if not then you have to pay aditional to have everything removed and also treated

BED BUGS SUCK

Lucky that Maine made a law holding the land lord responsable because I dont think your average tenant can afford the costs

They do suck! When we travel we are extra vigilant to make sure we do not take home any unwanted guest.
