The cost of these critters is high. Most people toss the bedding, but other fabrics would still need treating.

Never ever accept a used mattress.

Scott, actually there are 2 landlords that pooled together here in my city that recently purchased the equipment to do just that. So far they have had a 100% success rate.

Here is a story regarding them, http://www.sunjournal.com/city/story/885088
wow 65K! for the equipment!

Or your wallet .. LOL

All the stories I see of using 160deg they load everything in a car or box truck and let the sun help heat it .

You know how many BTU's it would take to heat say 1500sqft ?? Alot . Where is Jerry ? I bet he knows the math
too many variables.
basic volume of air to 160 is pretty easy.
but throw in the contents and you have to understand the thermal mass of what's in there.
a BTU is a unit of energy.
it all depends on how fast you want to heat the unit up.
it would be a lot easier in the summer since heat loss through the walls wouldn't be bad.

in the dead of winter.... oooh baby, in some cases you might not be able to get there becuase of air loss.

they used 1.2 million in the article which feels sort of right. I'm not sure that would do a big older drafty house.

The problem is getting all of the nooks and crannies hot, not just the room.
so in behind the cover plates, behind the molding, in the deepest crack of the headboard.

Bed bugs can live for a YEAR without feeding.
The bags are to prevent them from moving to the mattress to the host. (i.e. you)
It's also easier to inspect the mattress becuase it eliminates the edge of the bed and all those seams that they can hide in.

Especially in an apartment/condo/townhouse situation, where heating unit A would just cause them to migrate to unit B next door.

I was telling someone I know that is dealing with the issue and he said it would cost $8000 for someone to come in and heat his place that way.

Bill , maybe we do need to invest in a superheater

I want to invent something that costs me $10 each that I can sell for $200 to a million people. Ok, I'll settle for $20 each.
