Default First Oil change

Hi Folks,

I just got my 05 silverstone s2k from Garcia and its been a lot of fun -- even through the long 600 miles of breakin I currently have about 685 miles.

The manual specifically says (related to breakin) that the oil should not be changed before the first scheduled oil change at 7500 miles. The dealer said after the first 3000 - 4000 miles and I have friends that say the oil should be changed after the first 1000 because of small particles/shavings etc related to a new engine block.

Is there any consensus on this issue?

Thanks,
John

John,

Do a search here on the website to see what Road Rage says about the procedure, but the general consensus is use regular oil for around 5,000 miles I believe, and then you can do the switch to full synthetic. You'll want to double check the mileage though, but I'm pretty sure that's about right.... I usually do an oil change around every 5-7,000 miles because that's what synthetics are meant for. Every 3,000 miles is a myth.

My first oil change for my '03 was at 4,000 miles.

I did my first one at 7500. I did the next one at 3000 as the dealer suggested, and then the next time they said I wouldnt have to come in till 5000... So 5k it is for me.

Thanks for your replies. It looks like there is no hard and fast rule on this. I will probably follow the manufacture recommendation on this but keep looking for more information.

Road rage has recommendations. I'd follow them.
