Default (PICS!): My recent NM Drive

***NOTE: Since S2Ki doesn't like too may pics, the full post with ALL pics can be viewed here: ( http://forums.s2kca.com/showpost.php...47&postcount=1 ). For the sake of appeasing S2Ki and bandwidth, I'll just post the route I took, versus the sights***

As some of you may know, I took a drive this past Wed from El P to Cloudcroft to Timberon to Mayhill to Ruidoso to White Sands. Here are the pics.

From El Paso to Alamogordo is boring... So we'll pick it up at Alamo.
The road:

From there, I went south to Timberon. Here is where things got interesting. The road down there is AWESOME! Lots of short sweeping turns, nothing really tight, but still a blast.
The original route:

The route I was forced to take because of lack of a paved road from Timberon to Pinon:

From there, I drove east to Mayhill:

From there, a jaunt north to Ruidoso:

Stopped and ate lunch at this place:
“Can't Stop Smokin' BBQ”

Major let-down. The meat was bland and flavorless. No marinade, no rub, no nothing. Just plain meat. The BBQ sauce tasted like any off-the-shelf brand. I DO NOT recommend this place. The only perk of it was their blackberry cobbler.

Anyway, the journey went south to White Sands from there to catch the sunset, but not before stopping off at the Inn of the Mountain Gods casino and resort.

Took LOTS of sunset pics at White Sands. Check the other thread to see em.

PM for full size pictures. They make great backgrounds.

My next drive will be some time within the next few months on this route: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...4,3.510132&z=8

Very nice pics. Looks like it was a fun drive. Weather looked perfect for top down.

Cant stop smoking isn't that good of a place. Try Circle J for BBQ in Ruidoso. My favorite spot to hit up back home is Lincoln County Grill. Looks like a great planned out trip. Have you been up ski Apache before? Its a fun trip up and down even if its just to go to the look out..

Just outside of Cloudcroft 6563 is a great road, a couple friends of mine drive it everyday for fun. They are pretty good at driving that road. Has the sand and snow gone away? I haven't been up there in awhile. Last time was in my truck to go sledding.

I'll definitely post up an open invitation to all S owners on my next drive.

I went to Can't Stop Smoking based on a coworkers recommendation. I regret it. lol
I've never ventured to any of the ski sites before, but I've been meaning to.

I'll have to look into that one. Thanks for the tip!
The snow is gone off the roads. Theres very little sand left on the sides as well. It was a good drive.

This is a great drive From Ruidoso to Roswell without taking Hwy 70. The drive from Capitan to Roswell is a fun drive similar to the roads around Cloudcroft and Mayhill, less forest more desert though. If you take the drive be sure to fill up in Capitan because there are no service stations along the road pretty empty other than a few ranches as you get closer to Roswell. The first part is great halfway through , it gets more straight not so many turns.

I have also added this for you to see. I have never taken the FS road and I cant remember if it was paved or not. Maybe some one with forestry can help? Anyhow this ends at Tinnie if you don't wish to go on to Roswell, but like I said not to sure if its paved as I have never driven on that road.

I love the 244 Drive between Ruidoso and Cloudcroft as well. I did that drive in my EF a couple weeks ago-lots of fun!

Count me in for a drive up in that area anytime-i love that area. I have thought about buying property up there in a couple years....maybe
