Funny thing is that when I got my first ticket, the 4 point ticket, they recorded it twice and charged me for 8 points. I spent two months fighting with them but finally won. Almost immediately after I convinced them that I only had 4 points I got the 2 point ticket in Maryland and had to pay for 6 points.

Well its already been said but YES they do carry over
I speak from experience.

It sucks when you get a ticket like the one you got, I mean yeah
maybe its against the law but should there really be points for
rolling through a stop sign at least for me when you get pulled
over doing 90 or racing from light to light you feel like ok maybe the
juice was worth the squeeze but when its something stupid like
rolling a stop sign or passing a couple of cars on the right to get
to the exit thats 150 feet away instead of sitting in traffic it just
sucks and you can't help but think WHY ?

You're absolutely right. There are just some tickets that shouldn't be given. My last ticket came a month ago. It was 10:00 pm, I'd just worked a 14 hour day, I was the only one on the road, and I was ticketed for doing 56 in a 30 mph zone. It was the three mile stretch of Route 46 in Denville where the speed limit goes from 45 to 30. I was really upset. Who got hurt? Who was at risk? I don't mind if there was really something, but this ticket, like the rolling through the light ticket, was really just harrassment and revenue enhancement.

YUP !!!

I'm very familiar with that stretch of 46 that's a major
speed trap area for Denville Police and at that hour of the night
the cops drive back and forth all night to catch people
doing just what you did and if you have just come off route 80
50mph feels like 35mph

Worse still, it was about a week before the end of tax season, I'd been working all day, hadn't had lunch or dinner and all I wanted to do was to get home. You can imagine how upset I was.

Luckily for me the ticket only cost $105. Here in Randolph the same ticket would have cost $430, and the cops just sit on Route 10 waiting.

From what I understand, only 2 points from a given ticket will be carried over. A buddy of mine got a 4 point ticket in NY two months ago, but only 2 of the points transfered to his NJ licence.

I remember reading that there were two agreements between the states. I found this:

http://www.maureenkrueger.com/images/MapColor.pdf

and there is lots of information on the Non-Resident Violators Compact if you want to look it up.

I'm pretty sure that any out of state ticket, when transferred to NJ is 2 points, regardless of the original ticket in the original state. My no-point ticket on the Merrit last summer transferred as 2 points.

The points from NY to NJ are very "iffy". It really depends on what town it occurs in. Some just want the revenue.

I hope I don't jinx myself here!

I have gotten a few tickets in NY State and have never seen them appear on my lic. One ticket I called and asked for the fine and if points were given? I was told just send in the fine and no points would be given. I never received the points. The last ticket was on the NY Thruway around exit 22. Speeding! I never received points for that. I paid the fine quickly. So go figure!
