Default Nassau County Mechanic *Videos Up*

I got a serious engine knocking/clanking/shaking problem with my '97 Explorer with 87K miles. The sound is so bad that I may need to tow it to a shop. It still drives but I don't want to take a chance. It might be the timing chain or something.

I have always been a DIY guy but this one is a gonna be a BIG job. Anyone know a good/trustable mechanic in Nassau?

I would like to take this to Billman but the towing would be $$$.

Thanks in advance.

Edit: Videos of the problem. This one is a little better than my crappy video camera that I showed Billman.

Hey Bill. I did the test with that long screw driver trick. Nice little trick. Both valve cover sounds the same though. One isn't any louder than the other.

I will remove the serpentine belt tomorrow and see what happens...

I had a good listen to it today and sounds like the noise is coming from the top of the engine.
