I posted this over at the detailiers area as well figured id ask you guys as well

So I visited my girlfirend at school, always paranoid out first thing in the morning to check on my car and sure enough all these scratches odd going up and down on my door, but anyways it seems like they can be polished out. I dont have any tools or anything so im asking is there or whats the best kind of compound I could use on a cloth?

Not deep at all... Dam rutgers I hate having my car here

I think they will come out pretty easy with a polisher but... I just want to get the best stuff and hope I can get them out by hand... It may not even be in the paint may just be.. the paint of another car or somthing its really odd.

light surface scratches that your fingernail can barely feel? You can more than likely do a light wetsand and compound.

Pics would help. Also, can you feel them if you run your fingernail over them?

Getting them out by hand will be tough, but not impossible.

I'm just down the road in Washington Township. I consider myself a noob when it comes to detailing....however, I do have a PorterCable (Orbital), various pads and a number of Adam's products/polishes. I would be willing to lend a hand if you want to give it a try.

An alternative would be to have a 'pro' look at it. It seems Andrew "AndrewBigA" has a nice detailing business and would be more than capable of taking care of something like this. His prices seem very reasonable for what he is providing.

Hit me up via PM if your interested in trying yourself.

Thank's for putting in the good word for me. Take 3 clear, up close pics & post them up in the thread. If you feel I'm too far away to travel, I can at least offer you my professional & experienced advice =)
P.S. I drove past Rutgers campus last night lol! My gf lives just down the road.

Good luck with the scratches, and I second the "Possibly let a pro do it aka Andrew"

At the same time if I may pose a question on topic, I've wanted to start doing a polish on my car, and a orbital buffer comes to mind, but having never used one, is it truely newb friendly? Or am I gunna burn clearcoat and screw things up?

The only "newb friendly" machine is the Porter Cable. There are a few other brands with a similar machine but I don't suggest you use anythign else. Stay away for now from the Makitas & especially the Dewalt 849.

Welcome to the club; my car was hit at least 2 times while I was at Rutgers by idiots in the student lots & while I was down in New Brunswick recently, my car got sideswiped while parked on campus & required me to get a new door.

It's honestly not worth obsessing over until you get out of the Mecca of awful motorists.
