Default Switching to Winter Tires or Not?

If you do, when do you switch to winter tires and when do you switch back to summer tires?

I ran my blizzaks for three years already .. If you really want them to last ten years only drive them when there is snow on the floor or its icy.. I switched them on and off like 10 times one winter .. This is per billmans instructions .. I bought mine used and they still look brand new ..
And this is for snow tires winter I guess is different

Hey ray!!! I switch from summer tires to blizzaks typically when the weather is constantly under 40 degrees during the day and sub freezing temps at night which is usually around December or January. I leave them on till snow clears and Temps are above 40 daily which is around the end of march. Summer tires on a frozen or wet road w low temps are much worse than just snow so I don't wait for snow I actually go based on Temps instead and so far that has wored for me for 5 years on the same set of blizzaks.

blizzaks all the way. i put them on around thanksgiving, depending on the temperature. mine last 3-4 seasons. i keep them on all winter due to the temperature, not necessarily the snow.

My Bridgestone Potenza RE-50s can be driven safely until the ambient temperature is 28ºF. I tend to change over when my morning commutes are getting to freezing temperatures. I'd rather burn up winter tires on a few straggling warm days than risk stuffing myself into a ditch on cold tires. The same thing applies to changing over in the spring. I keep my winter tires on well into the spring until pot holes get filled. I use General Altimax tires on AP1 rims. They were something like $400 for the set so I don't mind burning them up a bit.

Wow, that's interesting. When you switched 10x, you switched back to summer tires?

I don't have to deal with this anymore but when I did...

One year I did a very good set of all season Conti DWS and they worked fairly well in the snow and great any other time.

I did another year on Blizzacks and yes they live far beyond the hype and are amazing in the snow.

IMHO this should not even be a question. I delayed changing my Star Specs till Nov and lost control once. It is not fun and don't even risk your S trying to drive slow on summer tires in cold weather.
