Will Pay for Test Drive

Will Pay for Test Drive
Hi All,
First post, and possibly an unusual one. I'm researching, learning and shopping for an AP2, but have never driven one. I'm uncomfortable responding to classifieds (here, FB, Autotrader, etc.) without really knowing yet, I consider it a waste of the seller's time and just somewhat dishonest. What I'd like to do instead, if someone is cool with it, is to have someone show me around their S2K. and let me drive it for a couple of hours (owner comes with, of course). That should be more than enough to know whether I fit well and the S2K is for me. I strongly suspect it will be otherwise I wouldn't bother coming this far, but just want to get that extra 10% of certainty from the experience.
I live in Rockland County, NY, about 35 miles NW of NYC, currently drive a BMW 3-series, been driving stick since I'm a teenager. I'm a young 55 now, guessing older than 98% of you ;-). Happy to meet wherever, and provide any info in advance you may want for your comfort level.
I'm thinking $100 would be mutually reasonable.
If anyone's interested let me know.
Thanks,
Howard

May I suggest finding a local dealership that has an S2K for sale and taking it for a test drive? I can tell you it won’t take you hours to figure out if you like the car or not. I have been daily driving an S2k since 1/4/03. About a minute into the test drive I knew she was the one. Back to the dealership, dealers are scumbags so now you don’t have to feel bad wasting their time...

I was one of the 'lucky' ones...
I bought my S from a dealership in NJ without knowing how to drive manual.
It was love at first sight.
I had the salesman drive me around for about 15-20 min, and after buying it I had a friend of mine drive it to LI for me.
I taught myself how to drive it and put 104k on it since 2005.
I wouldn't worry about wasting a dealer's time while you test drive it.
But I'll tell you this... once you get behind the wheel, you won't want to get out.
and I'm one of the 2% on this forum.

Thanks for the replies, yeah on 2nd thought a couple hours is ridiculous. A good guy came up from Brooklyn today (will remain unnamed unless he wants to chime in), showed me around his AP1 and took me for a great hour+ test drive as a passenger. Great time, learned a lot and saw what the S2K can do. I'm sold.
@plankfarm , I bought my first new car the same way except without even a test drive as a passenger, just knew I wanted to drive stick. Friend drove the 1986 Acura Integra (just to age myself) home from Manhattan to Yonkers, showed me the basics and I took it from there.
