Thumbs up WTH is this Driver Assessment Fee in NY ?

I was convicted on a 85 in a 55 mph ticket (6 points) and a tailgating ticket (4 points). The fines/surcharges of $400 was bad enough along with the expectation of increased insurance premiums. But now, I get a letter in the mail stating I have to pay $600 more in a "driver responsibility assessment fee"? This is a first I've heard of this. Anybody else had to deal with this? This is robbery.

"The purpose of the Driver Responsibility Program is to prevent the repeated behavior of problem drivers and to improve traffic safety."

No.

"The purpose of the Driver Responsibility Program is to rake in some more revenue for us without having to raise the fines and surcharges, and secondly, to prevent the repeated behavior of problem drivers and to improve traffic safety."

To me its robbery because I'm never going to be able to slow down. But it will probably slow down alot of morons out there. And maybe they are the type of people we don't want speeding anyway.

Maybe I'm a moron for saying that!

There are places worse. Here in Virginia 20 over is a mandatory court appearance - possible jail time (and they don't 'discriminate'. Anyone can get a night or two in jail). 80 over anywhere here hurts; AND, they've got speed traps in places you wouldn't believe.

I'd rather drive in NY than Va any day.

...then again, places like Georgia are even better...
