Default Hiking Trails - Need suggestions on a trail

Hi Upstate NY folks, my friends and I were interested in doing a nice scenic hike through upstate NY and was wondering if anyone had suggestions?

Just have 2 Criteria:

No more than a 2 hour drive from NYC
5-7 mile length

Anyone?

I work on a reservation with a bunch of trail networks, were about an hour and a half away from the city... were not really open to the public but there would be days you would be able to come in. another 30 min north of here is the Vanderbilt mansion and the Roosevelt library there is a free network of trails back there. also in the whole Poughkeepsie area is the Dutchess Rail Trail which for the most part connects with the walkway over the Hudson, which was just completed in October and is an absolute must to walk across.

Two hours from NYC means I don't have any real suggestions based on first hand knowledge.

1) I think Bear Mountain State Park (along Hudson south of West Point) must have hiking trails and the area is beautiful. 2) Mohunk (sp?) Mountain House in New Paltz has hiking trails. 3) The Appalachian trail cuts through northwestern Connecticut. There is an access point on Route 55. Take 684 north till it ends, then Route 22 to (not sure what town) then right on Route 55 heading to New Milford, CT. There are other places to pick it up in Connecticut. A hike from Bull's Bridge (Schaghticoke Road) in Kent, CT to Route 341 in Kent is a 7 mile ridgeline hike and you can drop a car at each end (I use this as a training route). The Appalachian contines all the way to Massachusetts through some pretty country. I'm sure you can find a website for the Appalachian. 4. For Catskills, check www.adkhighpeaks.com (scroll down page and they have a Catskill section). You might also look at www.viewsfromthetop.com. Both sites probably have links to more specific Catskill peaks. Happy Hiking!

Thanks for all the suggestions fella's!. I will be going to Bear Mtn park this weekend (not my choice unfortunately) but it will suffice. Maybe next time I will try the more distant trails (which I think are probably better)
