$60,000 in 3 months. Would you do it?
I have heard a lot about Alaskan crab fisherman having to do deal with rigurous tasks with this job. The tasks require a lot of hard work and concentration. Some of tasks are having a crew member go on the side of a cage risking falling into the ocean if he loses his grip. Another is pulling and releasing the bait cages which can weigh over 100 lbs each. Temperatures in the storm seasons can be 50 degrees BELOW ZERO! At least 1 Alaskan crab fisherman dies each week. The fishermen have to face with bad weather and hard work but in the end, they get a big paycheck of about $60,000. The question is would you do it and risk dying?
why, not crazy enough?!! too young to die?!! can't swim?!!
also, there is a chance of the ship not getting anywhere if the water freezes. and also, there's tons of ropes that the crew members have to handle. If one of the ropes that is attached to the bait cage, and the cage is released, try not to get your foot caught!
Remember, a cage can weigh 100 lbs empty. But when it fills up with the crabs, it's gonna be 700 lbs!

I haven't heard of wages that large. but for a few thousand bucks to go away, out to sea for a month or so sounds like one helluva experience to me - I've had several freinds that have done it, and they really enjoy it. they say 'that's living!'
Its not the manual labor, its the danger. I watched on Disovery Channel that Alaskan fisherman is one of the highest risk risk/death rates occupation in the United States. And $60k isn't a lot for 3 months considering this.
oh yeah, I forgot to mention that the waves are taller than the ship. And when the waves get bumpy, the waves can rock the ship to one side causing every object and human to go overboard if they're not hanging onto something. If that doesn't do it, the waves will sweep the fisherman off.
Remember this: there are 4 weeks/ month.
Pretend your ship has 48 crew members. As 1 year passes, your WHOLE CREW IS GONE!!!

FastrackS2000, that reminds me of the program I watched on Discovery Channel about 10 deadliest jobs in the world.
Other ones besides the Alaskan crab fishermen were skyscraper builders and bomb de-activators.
The bomb de-activators only get $5 a day. That is hard to believe!
