I made $80,000 clear, in my pocket, after all fixed and variable expenses and taxes for four days of exploratory excavation with a backhoe, two long reach excavators, a mobile laboratory, and many, many 25-ton bottom dump trucks. I smelled a lot of contamination, including methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), an octane-enhancing gasoline oxygenate additive thet's a suspected carcinogen and the latest environmentral hot button buggaboo. Was it worth it -- HELL YES!!!!!

I wouldn't do it. I'd probably get seasick and I'm too OLD to die

StormBringer - I don't think it's necesarily the weakest or the dumbest fisherman that dies. It's probably the newest ones, since they don't have all the experience. I was watching the program on Discovery, and some of the newbies where doing a lot of things wrong. They are probably the ones that are most likely to die.

I have heard a lot about Alaskan crab fisherman having to do deal with rigurous tasks with this job. The tasks require a lot of hard work and concentration. Some of tasks are having a crew member go on the side of a cage risking falling into the ocean if he loses his grip. Another is pulling and releasing the bait cages which can weigh over 100 lbs each. Temperatures in the storm seasons can be 50 degrees BELOW ZERO! At least 1 Alaskan crab fisherman dies each week. The fishermen have to face with bad weather and hard work but in the end, they get a big paycheck of about $60,000. The question is would you do it and risk dying?

i would rather sit my ass down at my desk job and get 65k/year..
sheesh, i would not risk death for 60k/3 months..
