sorry about that. I was just wondering if most of the "Alaskan crab fishermen" got too scared and retired OR if a ship had bad luck from crew members dying.

for the bomb de-activators, even if it is third world country, I think they should be the ones getting $60,000

I would do it, sound like un. The money would be nice but its not like I haven't been almost killed a few times in my life. Been shot at, almost drowned a few times, almost ruptured a appendix. Been in 2-3 100mph crashes. Lifes shot, and if I did it I could pay off the S2K and go back to school full time.

Heck where do I sign up.

Now on a side note, if 1 fisherman dies a week. And there are a whole bunch of fisherman you would think its the stupid person falling off the boat, or maybe the weak person. No I am nither stupid nor weak so I stand a decent chance for getting through the whole orderal. Now if you look at the rates of bad mistakes in scientists, which I am. You have a 125% chance of making a OSHA reportable mistake in your carrier. I used to work with live virus, so I am better off catching tasty crabs then working in a lab. Where do I sign up.

Would I do it? Hell yeah, that is an adventure. You get paid to do it too? How could I refuse to get paid a nice monetary sum to expedite myself on an adventure that I could never forget? The fear of death?? Impossible, I do not die fishing for crabs. Then again, I'm full of myself. Anyway, I would go regardless.

"Going away" and "being out to sea" starts to really suck after awhile. Trust me. You guys can drive your cars while I can only look at pictures of mine.

My boyfriend did a similar thing, but it was catching fish up in Prince Rupert on a fishing boat. He said that it was pretty dangerous and a very very rough job. They had to wake up at the crack of dawn and catch fish in these huge nets.. etc.. and it was very tiring and dangerous too.

I think he stayed there for 1 or 2 months. I'm not sure how much he made, but he said that you would have the potential to make like 17 grand or something like that in a few months.

Hello all I am new here. But I did spend 2 years commercial fishing in the Carolinas down to Florida. It's not an easy life no matter where you do it. The boats in the fishery that I was in, Snapper and Grouper, ranged in size from 36' to 65' and we lived out on the 100 Fathom break. The dangers vary from one region to the next. Where I was we had strong gales, hurricane force winds in winter, and piracy to worry about, you can ride out a gale, but having your boat taken by pirates (drug runners these days) was surely a death sentence. The Alaskan fisheries are not for old men, you need to be young and strong of back, (being weak of mind helps). The seas up there are more treacherous than most places in the world.

My uncle is an ALASKAN KING CRAB FISHERMAN, he has done it for the last 20 years! Being that it is one of the worlds top 5 most dangerous jobs, I can't believe he hasn't died already! My whole family gives him crap, yet he won't stop. The reality is this, the money is huge, but it is circumstantial. The crab season could suck, if this happens to you, your not making no 60k. On the other side of the coin, if the season rocks, you could pull 80k in 3 months. He told me personally that every season he goes out, at least one of his shipmates have died! That kind of risk is not worth it, I would rather sit on my arse, push pencils, and make 80k over a year then go through that torture on a chance that I could make 80k in just 3 months. Also, my uncle has been injured a million times out there. You may not die if your lucky, however, according to him, you WILL get injured in some way. He also said them Eskimo chicks are pretty nasty, don't know, but he said when your lonely, your lonely ;-). I say this, go get buffed up, become a CHIP & DALE dancer, make a grip of dough and get all the chicks. Those guy's make the same dough easy, plus they get all the chicks without having to fight over a stinky, schmelly, crab!
