someone else ran out on the field last night at the Phillies game too...not sure what happened with that one. i'm going tonight...i hope i see someone get tazed!

this kid deserved it. i have no problem with the cop using a taser despite him being fat and lazy. they're making it a big deal in the media though. they should start tazing drunken assholes at the game too and put it on the jumbotron. that would make it much more entertaining to go to a ballgame.

While I don't have a problem w/ tazing somebody in that situation, I think it would've been avoidable if the cop hadn't been such a chubbster. Then he could've actually chased & caught the kid. Lay off the Dunkin' Donuts, chunky-butt.
I personally think its besides the point. The cop did his job. Even if he was in better shape, and tackeled the kid, and broke the kid's collar bone, that too would have been called "excessive".

Cops are trained to use tasers, and use them properly. They are issued tasers for a reason, incapacitation, which is what he was to do in this situation. He did what he deemed necessary. Thats his job.

This shouldn't be news. People are appalled by the fact that this was done in public view but don't you all agree that it would be a bit more disturbing if you found out that this had happened after being escorted off the feild out of the public view? Maybe I'm just misreading some people's points, but I am getting the feeling that some people's problem with this is just the fact that it was done publicly.

And to those arguing excessive force, I just plain disagree, but that will happen. This shouldn't be news in any case.

I predict the settlement will be for $1,000,000 to the kid. I'm going to mark on my calendar to google the kid's name in 12 months and see if I was right.

What would the reason be to sue anyone over this?

You broke the law, and you're being coralled with less than lethal force when you also RESIST ARREST. He didn't stand still then get tasered for no reason. He made it clear he wasn't going down with verbal commands only.

So what should the police do? Continue to repeat the same commands over and over and expect a different, compliant result from the CRIMINAL? Yep, he's a criminal. Trespassing is a crime.

I think the whole thing is funny, but the kid sues over it, I'll want to punch him square in that ugly face.

Police departments have rules regarding the use of tasers. They can't use them unless very specific cirumstances are present. I guarantee the cop broke his own department's rules. I guarantee there will be a lawsuit. I guarantee there will be a settlement.
