Ayrton Senna, you were, and always will be the greatest. Even 17 years on.
May your great spirit live forever, for this world will never see another you.

Watched the Senna movie today.. All I could say is wow. It's amazing what he accomplished as a driver and a human being. I'd have to agree with the people he raced with when they said he's the best driver, as they'd know first hand who is good and who isn't.
Tamburello
....master of "the wet"....youngest 3 time world Champion....65 poll lap times...some of the fastest lap times ever. ...he knew he had a gift and wanted to give back to his people and those suffering around the world. He truly shared a deep empathy for mankind and was not afraid to express it. He once risked his own life to save the life of another driver who had crashed on a circuit. A true master of his craft and amazingly one the most influential humans to have lived. I've seen hours of footage on this guy. Donnington 1993 was one race that many F1 fans will take to their graves as it was the true example of his commitmwnt to the sport. He gave "everything, absolutely everything" everytime. His passion to beat Alain Prost fueled his Honda team to be the best, even when others told him that he should follow in Alains footsteps. He won his first race against world champions at the Nurburgring when he was just in Formula 3...even at 22 yrs of age he was taking guys out and continued to rise to become a 3 time F1 champion. He was absolutely graceful yet ruthless behind the wheel. A man with morals like no other. His loss was so big that the nation of Brazil had 3 days of mourning after his death. There has never been another loss like him in ANY sport. Men like Michael Schumacher "stig" considered him to be the best, because he simply was the best. He could make any car go faster than the next man. He sacrificed everything everytime. I could go on and on man. This guy is my idol. A truly great human being with a talent like no other. Ayrton Senna FTW
Ironically he died from a technical malfunction.....not him squeezing between a gap or losing traction while doing 200 mph around a corner. He knew what he was doing even when the car "failed"....watch some footage on his crash...he had the reflexes of a perfectionist

I liked Senna as a driver too, but let's be honest - the man raced cars. That's more than a little self-indulgent. One cannot chew up a personal fortune that way, give a little to some poor kids, and then honestly claim the title "saint."
He was a child of priviledge. He raced expensive cars. He was kind of a prima donna. It's easy to make way too much of the man because he happened to be good at racing.

You can't deny talent. Whether he was a great man or not the man could handle anything with four wheels better than anyone I have ever seen. Sure there is a lot of talent out there that doesn't have the money to race professionally but he was certainly one of the guys that you see that money or not had all the talent to justify the rides he got. I miss his personality in the post race interviews as much as his driving. Every time I watch a post race interview in modern F1 it is so apparent how political and contrived the responses and comments are.
