Since coverage of Abu Gharib was on tv it must be fantasy as well?
24 may be "just a tv show" to the truly ignorant but deep down it's really another incrementalist effort to slowly desensitize people in to accepting the notion of torture as being a necessity in everyday life. That and the fact that your civil liberties don't mean shit when there's a "hardass" like Jack Bauer in the room.

I found it pretty impressive that within 15 minutes at 1:00 AM they were able to get an attorney from Amnesty Intl to get an order signed by a federal judge and then get a federal marshall, and then drive across LA to get to CTU headquarters. In 15 minutes.
Anybody else find it funny how incompetent CTU is at "locking down" a building that Marwan is in? Have the idiots hold hands in a big circle around the building or something. I know it wouldn't have helped when he had the tunnel, but a few weeks ago he didn't have a tunnel and he had no problem escaping. I know that CTU's incompetence and stupidity is what allows them to milk this show out to 24 episodes, but it's getting a little ridiculous this season. It's gotten to the point with my friends that I watch it with, we're just watching to see what stupid turn the writers take this week. It's like watching a train wreck.

That brings up an interesting question.....
Having never watched the show before, I got sucked in by the cliff hanger endings every week and some kind of plot climax each week. If they took out a few of the narrow escapes and slowed the plot down a little would that make the show more believable and therefore better or less exciting and make you less likely to tune in each week because you are not worried about missing some great plot twist.
It may be far fetched but I think the formula is what makes people want to make sure they watch each week so they don't miss something.

I guess I was just pondering over some of the discrepancies for the sake of pondering. Ultimately, it's just a TV show. I mean torturing captives? Come on, that sort of thing doesn't happen in real life!
