I'm all for working 4-10's and always having a 3 day weekend.

hell i used to have to work 5-11 hour days with only 2 day weekends and hardly a lunch.

It's actually pretty standard for companies in the Oil and Gas industry here in Calgary, Alberta to have a certain rotational day off. Every company has their own schedule but some are every other Friday off (with no extra work hours on the on days), another is an extra hour of work every Monday through Thursday and Friday afternoons off, another is every Friday off and they work an extra 1.5 hours each day Monday through Friday.

It's not a gas saver for most, it's a great perk for employees though to regularly be getting long weekends and extended time out of the office because they work so hard when they are in it.

If a company didn't do it, they'd have trouble attracting employees here.

I used to work at a greeting card company that gave us the option for 4/10s from Jan-Jun and then switched to *6*/10s from July to Dec.

4/10s was awesome.

Personally I could care less about saving gas. It'd be what...10 bucks tops? It'd just be much nicer with a nice long weekend.

Wednesday off would rock too though.

I've worked 4 10's and loved it. I even worked 3 12's and that was cool too.

I vote for "yes' & pedro.

I would love to work 4 10's instead of 5 8's. Unfortunately until all our clients switch to that (which will never happen) it wont happen for us.

You also save a lot of money on utilities. Think heating and cooling costs for a building being empty 3 days a week instead of 2. I remember reading an article about some government in a small town in Florida did this and ended up saving hundreds of thousands of dollars a year on utility costs. Then add in all the gas savings for the employees.

If all the employers able to do this did...that would be a huge chunk taken out of our energy requirements and reduce pollution...

Our company JUST went with 4-10's. We make laboratory furniture, cabinets, fume hoods, counter tops, etc. One of the main reasons was that powder coating ovens take a lot of energy to heat up to 400* so they figured that, in combination with the welders, brake presses, laser cutters, spot welders, etc. not running for one extra day/ week, the money savings over the course of a year would easily top $100k.

We have still been working 1/2 days on Friday but we are pretty busy right now. Kinda glad though....who couldn't use a little overtime especially in this economy.

I did 4-10's for the past 3 years, and now I do 3-12's followed by 3 days off then 4 12's with 4 days off. So basically I only work 7 days every 2 weeks, and I get long weekends every week. After awhile, you barely notice the extra hours and it just becomes a part of the grind. I could never go back to a 5 day work week anymore.

To me, it's not even about the commute or anything. It's just nice to have an extra day [or two] off.
