$500 laptop - need advice
I have had the same $1200 Dell for 3.5 years now with no issues. I feel like i should buy a new one just in case something happens to mine.
I see lots of them for $500 that have way more power and memory than mine.
any advice? Dell, Toshiba, etc..
what software? XP or Vista?
All i really need it for is to do turbo tax, surf $$$$$$ sites and do some excel spreadsheets... and Quick books....
thanks

this same question came up in the Computer subforum... somebody recommended MacBook? I am hardly an authority but am getting a Dell Studio 15 for my wife for Christmas... she loves those.
Between my wife and I we have 4 laptops, all of them are DELLs. All of them have been bulletproof AND the big plus is the fact that all of the power supplies are interchangeable. Trust me, that's HUGE.

I've never had a DELL last more than 18 months. Thank Chivas I never had to pay for any of them.
My sister ordered a DELL from DELL that was DOA. Their customer service took 4 weeks to honor the guarantee. . . and sent her another laptop* that was DOA.
*different serial numbers; it was the first thing I checked.

Oh crap!
Before I went on my hatred of DELL; you'll want XP!!!!! Vista is still too big a memory and front-side-bus hog, IMHO.
For $500? My advice is to get whatever, and start saving for that next $500 laptop.
