50k/75k in NYC isn't the same as 50k/75k in most parts of the country. It's all relative. Just like how you spend it. During college I worked summers/winters for an oil service firm [NOV] and worked with some PhD students for online marketing and even after tuition, rent, books, gas, insurance, all that bullshit I saved 5k+ a year and invested it. That's while spending 10k on tuition and books AND not having all that time to work.
It's about how you use your money just as much as how much you earn it. You aren't making 50k a year, you just think you are. Really, you are making the government about 20k a year, the mall probably 3-5k a year, the bank that financed your car 2-3k a year, your apartment owner 4-6k a year, etc.
Gotta pay yourself first, you can do it.

This thread is awesome.
"I make 50K a year, but I don't have any money left. Why?"
Why? Because you spend it all! It's not that hard to figure out. If you want to have more money, either:
a) bring more in (i.e., make more), or
b) send less out (i.e., spend less).
You could make a trillion dollars a year, but if you spend it all, then you're still not going to have any left! Pretty simple math at work there.

Straight outta H.S.? I'm assuming to get into the IT field, you have to go to college. Possibly making 50k at the age of 22 or 23, yeah. I'm also stumped on how someone can make 50k at 17 or 18, possibly a parents business? Or is it really "The right place at the right time"?
he's a bartender and loving it.

see the problem is if i were lying i wouldnt have paystubs with 690.00 a week.

and the other problem is, you guys are all narrow minded assholes that think you know everything. i work for a law office as an executive assistant and translate documents from korean to english for lg and samsung. its great how everyone assumes that just because you've never met a high school drop out that made it, it isnt possible.
