Wilco isnt an 80's band--sorry. Considering A.M. didnt come out until 1995, that hardly qualifies them as an 80's band. Even if you said Uncle Tupelo, which was Jeff Tweedy's previous band, their first album was in 1990.

Other non-80's bands on Whites2000's list:
Damien Rice
Sleater-Kinney
Rufus Wainwright
Death Cab for Cutie

and that's just to name a few....When did the thread change from 80's bands to indie rock?

Tenblade, if you like Joy Division, you should certainly check out Interpol (popular NYC post-punk revival of this decade). The similarities to Ian Curtis et al are absolutely uncanny, especially their first album, Under the Bright Lights.
If you like Morrissey/Smiths, check out Gene (from 90's).
If you like Echo&Bunnymen, check out British Sea Power

other non-80's from WhiteS2000: Spoon, Shins, Hooverphonic

back to the 80's:

Cocteau Twins, New Order, Joy Division, Cure, Siouxsie, DM, Jesus&Mary Chain, PSB, Echo & Bunnymen, Smiths, Moz, Erasure, Simple Mind, OMD, Soft Cell, early Ministry, St Etienne, My Bloody Valentine (ok, that's a stretch), Einsturzende Neubauten, Nitzer Ebb, Xymox, Eurythmics, Police, Peter Murphy/Bauhaus, Dead Can Dance, Public Image Ltd
