80's outside but freezing inside-restaurants, etc.
So this is basically nationwide.... just think of how much $ could be saved if everyone could live with a something normal like 77F instead of 68F Nipple hardening degrees.....
screw the drilling in Alaska, just make it mandatory that everyone keep their HVAC on a reasonable temp and the energy crisis would be solved!

Wimps. I like room temp to be 68. Winter and summer. In the winter I set my thermostat at 68 and lay around the house in shorts. My significant other grabs a blanket and wraps herself up like a burrito everytime she comes over.
When I come in from a hot day into a restaurant that is freezing, it feels just right.

68 might be a little low, I like it in the low 70's. I live in FL and I am friggin hot most of the time. Me and my son both, we just like it really cool and we naturally have a higher temperature. We arent fat or anything, we just do better in the cool/cold weather. I really live in the wrong state...

how funny... i'm actually sitting at my desk at work freezing my farking arse off!! my desk sits right under the air conditioning vent and a huge window so i'm always cold at work. i hate being cold...
our thermostat is usually around 68-70 and all the girls usually complain of the tempature because:
1. they sit on their ass majority of the day.
2. they work slow.
3. they dont wear enough clothes
4. they sit on their ass.
5. and lastly they sit on their ass.
i work at a bank you may thing i sit on my ass all day long but actully im always walking around getting things done and even with the thermostat at 68 its just about right. could be better at 66.
if you're cold at work get your ass up and get some work done.

i get so pissed when clients call me and ask me to fax them a proof of their ad or something. i'm thinking "god dammit... now i have to walk to the fax machine.
" LOL...
So the answer isn't "set the heat on something that most people find tolerable" but instead tell the accounting dork (that's me) to get up and do something (make copies... of my ass?????......that would at least heat up my ass a little).....
They keep it pretty cold here at work - high 60s, usually, and I'm right beneath a vent.
At home, I keep the thermostat at about 80. If I drop it lower, my little girl complains that it's cold. She may have been born in Canada but she has Texas blood in her, I guess.
On vacation last week, I was ready to go get a jacket from the car while at one restaurant. it was 95* outside and probably 62* inside - way too big of a temp difference to be comfortable.

There are some places I won't go eat just because it is too cold. I shiver like a chihuahua in December. That is just stupid.
We keep our thermostat set at 78. You know what, it is damn pleasant when you walk in from 90+ heat. I haven't had a single person comment on too hot or too cold.

During the summer I keep mine set at 78 during the day at home and the office.
The thermostat automatically drops to 73 at night. (and I still have $600 electricity bills)
But during the winter 68 would be high for us. Don't know why that is.

We keep the office at the low 70's. It seems to be fine except for one co-worker who unfortunately sits right under the vent.
Our biggest HVAC/Energy concern is for the (computer) lab. We have to keep THAT room at 67-71 at any given time, with several cubic tons of air-conditioning being pumped in there per day.
Get everybody off of CRTs in the office if you haven't done so already.
