Default 80's outside but freezing inside-restaurants, etc.

It has been fairly warm lately, but when we go to a restaurant it will be too cold to even enjoy my food.

At work I have my thermometer set at 77F but it doesn't do anything.... it is usually in the low 70's in my office and my hands are frozen.

It would be interesting to see how much extra energy / power is WASTED keeping offices / restaurants / etc... too cold.

who cares....just make more energy!

Funny, because I think the same thing. I'm sitting at my desk with a hooded sweatshirt on, no joke.

Wimps. I like room temp to be 68. Winter and summer. In the winter I set my thermostat at 68 and lay around the house in shorts. My significant other grabs a blanket and wraps herself up like a burrito everytime she comes over.

When I come in from a hot day into a restaurant that is freezing, it feels just right.

Yeah, isn't it insane? I had a hot chocolate a while ago just to warm up a bit. I don't get it. Why the hell are we freezing in the summer? We need locker rooms at work so we can change into our snowsuits when we get here.

I get the "your place is freezing" all the time and I don't think it is. But for some reason it always feels frigid in work.

Cold Front

A new study strongly suggests that "cold" workplaces should be more commonplace.

"We have found that having the temperature set at or below 65 degrees farenheit, dramatically increases productivity." States Rhahed Punok, scientist at the Institute of Science in Islamabad, or the ISI.

"By lowering the temperature, we have found that it gets people moving, more active, to stay warm" he states.

Over the course of 10 years, the study was conducted in various working environments, from resturaunts to offices.

Jani Tamur, who owns a resturaunt in downtown Islamabad says that, "I have seen (by dropping the temperature) my productivity up 20% along with my revenues!"

And there are plenty of examples like that one here in Islamabad.

The Pakistani government is strongly considering implementing these findings and making them manditory for businesses throughout Pakistan.

"I'll just have to make my waiters wear heavier apparel!" Tamur jokes.

But this is no laughing matter. Hearings on the implementation will begin on the 29th of August.

i sit at a desk and surf the internet....... doesn't matter how warm or cold it is in here, that is all they are getting out of me.

That "colder is more productive" stuff would work in a factory or distribution site maybe.?

anyway..... I see people wearing sweaters around here. we bitch about how cold it is, but no one can ever seem to get it right.

there is always the one a-hole (VADER) who thinks they need their office at 68F so I think somehow that one dick f's it up for everyone else. ICKHOLES:

Yeah, I am in a constant battle with a woman here at work over the workplace thermostat.

I saw comedian, I think it might have been Ron White who said something like:

"Oh sure me and the wife have little differences. I like to keep the thermostat between 68 and 72 degrees. She likes to keep it between 78 and 120."

When I worked at Prudential the thermostat actually affected the temperature. The woman who sat beside it kept setting it to 65 and freezing our asses off. I came in early one morning, opened it up and cut a strategic wire. By the end of the day, the temperature was balmy, but there was no fresh air. You just can't win.

We moved to a new building that was much better. The thermostat was locked up in a little perspex box, but had slots to allow airflow to the sensors. A carefully bent paper clip was all I needed to adjust the temperature and keep myself warm. I had to try not to laugh every time the maintenance guy came along, unlocked it, scratched his head, and reset it to 68.
