I was also waiting to see some poor little child run down a driveway engulfed in flames...

That is pretty sick! Because of the title, I didn't wanna click on the link, thinking it would be a child being burned. That is, indeed, misleading!

Could you imagine what kind of damage would've been done to the audience if he had let the staff go by accident?

That's cool but, let's assume the kid started training when he was 4-5. There's no way he should have a black belt in 3-4 years!!! IMO it should take a level of skill and maturity that you need to be at least in the late teens to achieve. I used to get a kick out of all the people in high school that were TKD black belts after 3 years. </punintended>

At my school it would take 10 years for an ADULT to get a black belt(there were no degrees/stripes after that). And there were only a handful of people that reached that level in the 30 years the school has been around...
Depends on the form of martial art. 3 years of continuousand vigorous training in TKD is the best you can do in Korea. Of course in the states some students buy their belts rather than earn them. Remember TKD has 10 dans of black belts other styles have a different set of levels. I got mine in 3 years an I most certaintly earned it as my instructor wouldn't have it any other way. I was one of his first black belts maybe #5 or less. He's a master 6th dan and he's been doing it for ~40 years now. Hows that for slow. As you get higher the time gets longer and you physical condition is not indicative of your skill. He's getting old doesn't move as fluently but he uses less effort to do more damage. I love watching these old men that look like they are about to fall apart move ever so slightly to dodge and ever so slightly to put your ass on the floor. Also note that he has a jr black belt not a full one. He'll have to bust his ass to meet the dan requirements after he's 16 or 18 depending on his teacher.

Oh a great related story. I once watched a guy do a form with a sword, he was incredible. When he went to sheath his sword he stabbed himself right through the leg. :OMG: he pulled it out, like a dumb ass, and sheath it, then off to the hospital he went.
