Well then you're another one. I'm in the camp that treats a pup as a part of the family. My love is not only for humans but for those that reciprocate. My pup gave me unconditional love and provided me unmeasurable joy. I would've and did do anything I could for him.

If you're not ready for that kind of commitment, then IMO, you shouldn't have a dog.

Another what?

Your dog is going to die. Hopefully before you do. Get used to it. I really care for my pets but they are animals. they are not people. They are pets.

I think that people who go to extreme measures to keep a pet alive are all about themselves, not the animal. If you truly care about the comfort of an animal, you have it put down when it is time. Its the kind and compassionate thing to do.

Another person who can put a price on unconditional love.

In one breath you talk flippantly of how it's "just" a dog and on the other you're talking about compassion.

Eating a pound of them at a time is the problem. Lab's like to scarf food down like it's an Olympic event.

And as much as I love my dog, there's no way in hell that I would spend 11K on her.
I think I agree with Theyoungman here.

As much as I love my dog, he is still an animal, not a child. Even though he's "a part of the family", he's still a pet. $11K is kind of much to try to save a pet when it could be spent saving a child's life in a much poorer part of the world.

WTF is wrong with you people?
I see you live in Ohio so I can understand why you're miserable but there's no need for you to be an ass. Are you an unnamed conspirator of Michael Vick or something? I would spend whatever it took to help either of my dogs and if you think you're helping to come into this thread and bash peopole who do then maybe you need to look in the mirror. It's pretty sad when people like you start bashing others for showing kindness and compassion...are you a Nazi or just a blasphemor in general?

People have different views/perspectives on pets. I love and treat my dog like hes a big part of the family, like a brother, a child. Its the first dog I have ever owned and my dog changed me for the better. I became more responsible and I have become less angry than I used to. I've become a better person and my family has become less dysfunctional ever since we got my dog. Pets are not objects, they do have feelings and emotions which equals out to them having almost a human-like soul. My dog knows when he does something wrong because he puts his head down and goes straight to his room. My dog also likes to howl everytime I come home and greet me by trying to tackle me down to the ground just to slobber my face. My dog knows when I am taking him in the car to go see my friend's dog and suprisingly he memorized the how to get there because one day I was chasing him and he got halfway to my friend's house. I will admit, I will do anything for my dog because he makes me happy and if I have to spend an X amount of money to keep him alive then so be it

I've had a number of dogs in my life; unforunately, like all mortally-bound creatures, they die. It's sad. (And I don't say this in a negative way to the OP--I am sorry for the loss. This is more directed to the squabble above this post.)
"SheDrivesIt," from what I can tell, was not indicating that she is incompassionate to the death of an animal; merely, she is noting the absurdity of the expression "That's like the worst experience ever:" if that is the situation for you, then be satisfied that you've had a pretty good life, overall--or, at least a pretty uneventful one.
