Now getting back to the BEAST OF ALL DOGS! Its called the PRESA CANARIO, these things were bred to fight as well. They can get up 130+ and are extremely powerful! I was on a k-9 site and they said that these dogs bites were much more powerful then anything they had seen (given that they deal with rots,GS,doberman and pitbulls).

I forgot to share.

Oh my god, last night, I tried to take some food out of my Akita's mouth because I didn't want him to eat that, he growled at me. This scares me because it indicates an aggressive nature. Of course, I beat the shit out of him and taught him who's boss. Just kidding! I did give him a little spanking to show him my disapproval of his growling at me, and he seemed to understand. He became submissive and bowed down at me. Seriously!

Hahaha I dont need that kinda a look mang, it would be an added bonus if it was there, but i dont need that look.

Your on!! I'll find the biggest Presa and I bet good money he'll put up for more then one bite . I know its sad to think like this but sometimes I just wanna see which dog is better......its lame and cruel i know, so please spare me the lecture.

By the way, did you know that they use Akitas to be foster parents to young lion and tiger cubs?! Since they are tough and have thick skin they make the best foster parents. The cubs know that this big ass dog isnt going to back down. By the way when he growled how did you "spank" him? I would assume he'd bite your ass, and is this a good way to rid of unwanted behavior??

Also I will be gettin a male, theres too many PMSy bitches in my life already. I need a pal I can chill with.

Raj, I read about that method, and they said it is the wrong way to do things. It teaches the dog that its ok to pick on someone smaller then you, especially when this happens to a puppy. They learn that since they are bigger or stronger, that its ok to be aggressive in this way since thats how they were brought up. I think i have the entire article saved somewhere. I can send it to you if interested.

I'd be interested to see that article. That logic makes no sence! Dogs are pack animals and they are part of your pack.

I've been alpha maleing my dog since after the first week we brought him home and now he's 60 lbs. He doesn't pick on any dog no matter the size.

The best negative reinforcement method for them is alpha maleing. It's actually hitting, spanking them that is the wrong thing. The first is natural the second makes the dog mean.

The best positive reinforcement and way to teach dogs is with treat. The whole pavlov's dog operant conditioning is very strong in dogs.

You are so right. Positive reinforcement is to reward them when they do behaviour you desire. The alpha male is to stop negative behavior.

Has the dog ever defended himself while you were approaching him while he was growling? One would think that the dog would bite or attack, since he's already pissed off.

You have to be careful of that. If they are your dog and the right breed, like an Akita, they might bite the hand that feeds them. On the other hand if you are already dominant before they are big enough to fight you, or hurt you then you won't have to worry about them growling at you.
