Default Anti-Smoking Commercials

Whilst browsing through the threads here I looked over my shoulder to see one of Phillip Morris' anti-smoking commercials. Is it just my narrow-mindedness or these amongt the stupidest of commercials on television?

Cigarette smoke makes me sick - literally. I've obviously never smoked, nor has my wife. My father smokes, as does my step-mother, but my mom does not. My wife's parents never have. Our elder son smokes, although he derided smokers as fools for years - even, I believe, after he took up the habit. Our other two children don't smoke.

All of which means what? I believe that intelligent arguments intelligently presented might disuade thoughtful teenagers who are undecided about smoking. Those with their minds made up either way probably won't change. And stupid commercials won't change anyone's mind.

Well, that's my twopence for the evening.

(My son just pointed out a Weir Canyon Honda commercial with an S2000, so we know intelligent commercials are possible!)

I think it might have been part of the billion dollar settlement from the cigarette companies.

Yeah, like how about all of those new cherry and mint flavored cigarettes from Camel? You can't tell me that's not geared towards kids.

Have ya'll seen those "truth" commercials on MTV? Some of those are pretty funny, like the gigantic shredder one... I say smoke if you want to, but the companies shouldn't target kids and have them cremate their lungs before they reach their full potential.

Smoking has been around for tens of thousands of years. "Non-smoking" is a fad no more than two decades old. Don't worry, all fads go away.
