Ok an update: per some of your excellent suggestions i went to see a dentist, and sure enough, looks like my wisdom teeth are causing all the trouble. got them all cleaned up, prepping for an oral surgery to have them removed.

Good luck man! I had all 4 wisdoms pulled when I was about 28 yeas old. Due to the area and clearance in my mouth the surgeon really had to do a number on my jaw to get back there. I couldn't open my mouth far enough to get a fork in for about 2 weeks afterwards because my jaw muscles were that sore. It was worth it though to get rid of them. Pick up some straws on your way to the surgeon! You might need em afterwards.

well, i'm not going in until i'm done with traveling for work (early june), but i was told to use listerine every day to keep everything tidy

i've been warned about the straw, so yeah, i'll be getting lots of the "boba milk tea" style straws
