Any Fish hobbyists here?
hi guys,
i'm looking for 1-3 new fish for one of my tanks...
this is an already established 125g mostly central american cichlid tank.
one 9 inch arowana
one 5 inch plecostomus
three 2 inch gold severums
one 2.5 inch geophagus
two 3 inch sharks (catfish)
i just lost 2 geophagus and my favorite 9 inch green terror this weekend
i guess what i'm asking is...does anyone have the above mentioned fish, sharing a tank w/any other type of fish? i'm mostly interested in cichlids, so maybe jack dempseys, firemouths, oscars?, etc etc.
i'm open to any suggestions..
thanks

Since your tank is already established, I would rearranged the tank decor because your fishes have already established their territories. So when you add your new fish, the old fish wil think its a new enviroment and they will try and establish another territory.
I could be wrong but this is what I did when I added more red belly piranhas to my tank. I noticed before, when I added another fish, they constantly fight and one would end up eaten.
Let me know how it goes.

cichlids are hard to mix with other fish. I am not sure about the central american ones but the african ones are hard core.
Wisdom sounds like he has some good advice as far as the environment is concerned.

A 3.5" jack dempsey terrorized my 3.5" severums when I added him to a tank. I had to return him. I wouldn't go that route, they are too aggressive.
Like the arowana, oscars get big.. and grow more rapidly too.. as much as 3cm per month if well fed. I certainly wouldn't want a 9" oscar in that tank.. your 2" fish would quickly dissapear. They are not overly aggressive and would probably get a long well in that tank for awhile until they got too big.
Firemouths are more easy going, but strong enough to not get picked on.. they would probably assimilate well.
Other suggestions:
Convicts. Some times easy going, but I would be cautious putting them in with severums. They are very territorial, but your tank is big enough that it should be ok.
I had one fish that would probably be pretty good.. but I can't think of the name. I'll get back to you

so jd's and oscars are out; i'll consider firemouths.
convicts are a really nice choice, however i have a 75g tank w/3 breeding couples of convicts, so i'm not that interested in getting more.
my local fish store has a neat breeding pair of convict hybrids, looks like a mix of pink convict and maybe severum? they're not even sure at the store. but i'm really hesistant putting a pair in the tank, they go crazy when its time to breed.
maybe i'll replace one of the geophagus, and get a firemouth...
