Default Any husky owners?

I'm toying around with the idea of picking up a husky (or husky mix) and was wondering if there's any insider thoughts on their general behaviors and tendencies. I'm looking at getting a rescued husky, because it obviously needs a good home.

For the record:

This will be my first dog however; I've loved husky's since a kid because two of my friends had them and they were so playful and loving. While I've never had the experience of actually owning one, I've at least been around them and know they're high maintenance in the attention section.

Thanks!

well i mean anything you hear on a forum is going to be anecdotal.. but i'll throw my 2cents

they are
-intelligent
-stubborn

you will need to devote a significant amount of time and effort to training, made more difficult by the fact that you'll be dealing with a rescue.

my2cents, make sure you're prepared.

We actually had a case locally about a month ago where a husky killed a newborn. Newborn was in a baby seat and parents were out of the room and it bit up the babies head and throat.

Thats EXTREMELY rare of course.

My neighbor has five of them penned up as outdoor dogs and I don't have much experience with the other than that they are smart and stubborn but would also add that I heard they can be "unpredictable."

Most dogs it comes down to the treatment and training they have had from their owners (nurture over nature) but some breeds do get what I think are deserved reputations for being "twitchy."

I have had a husky for 12 years.. Rescued from a local shelter when she was 2 months old, and surprisingly she did not grow much since then.

She is probably mixed slightly with something else because of her small size, but its a blessing because at 12 years old she is still very active. I think the average life expectancy of pure bloods is 12 years, mixes are longer depending on the other breed.

She has always been good around people, and pretty friendly with other dogs. They need a big yard to run & hunt in. They love to kill birds & raccoons
They are the best pets you could ever have. I wouldn't even consider another breed of dog.

I've been reading the same thing! trying to do a lot of research before making some spur of the moment decision. One quote that made me laugh was;

"Make sure you have a well penned off area, or thought out play area. Husky's are the harry houdini's of dogs. If they can't get over it, they will go under it."

It gave me a chuckle
