Any husky owners?

While they are beautiful dogs, they don't like heat at all. They are miserable, and damn near shut down in the heat. With you living in Cali, I might reconsider.
Furthermore, huskies are the closest breed of dog behaviorwise to wolves. As a result, like others said (including the owner above) they are unpredictable and will kill small things, which unfortunately, sometimes, include children. As much as I love them, and think they are absolutely gorgeous, I would be weary of owning a husky around kids.
While there might be a 5% chance of them actually attacking someone, if I had a child, or had some in my area, I would reconsider....that's a pretty high percentage.

As a kid I had golden retrievers, they were nightmares. Never liked labs. I guess the heat thing must be a dog by dog basis, because from my research I've read plenty on them loving heat.
Still doing a lot of reading, thanks for some insider info guys

Well everyone I know is an anomaly then cause they all love the heat and none of them run or dig.
Mine is 17 years old now and the one time she ran was because my other dog took her for an excursion down the creek.
Yes, they are smart and can be stubborn, but being smart makes them realize they aren't going to win certain argument such as you WILL NOT SLEEP ON THE FURNITURE.
We are in the country with no fences whatsoever and the Husky is the dog I can count on coming when called and count on not running off.

my parents have an all white with blue eyes husky...he was a terror and escape artist until they had him neutered...hes great around kids, and kind of a bum as he likes to lay around. You can pet him while he eats, feed him treats out of your hand without him nipping. He loves being outside in the cold, but will sunbathe in the front room with the sun coming in.
they also have a husky german shepherd mix..shes still a pup but she is very hyper, likes to bark, and is an attention whore.

i had a brown part husky/part chow...great dog! Shed like a mutha tho...had to brush him ALL the time. He was great with kids and other animals, loved to play, i ran with him everyday, took him everywhere with me...only problem, he would get away on me and he was hard to catch. he wouldn't stay around me or in the yard, had to always have him on a leash or tied up....and what someone said earlier, if there is a will there is a way, the bugger will ALWAYS find a way to escape. When my dog, Taz, was a pup, he would get out of his crate. To this day, i still have no idea how he got out. Overall, great dog and i miss him everyday!
