I have families who are doctors, and they make so much banks that sometimes I just walk up to them and pretend that they are ATM's and push the invisible buttons on their bodies.

It all depends on your specialty. IC, IR, Urology, sub-specialties can still make a pretty good living. But there are other factors to consider i.e. school loans, malpractice insurance, opportunity cost, etc. As a 1st year resident, per hour, I was making 2.15 cents. I was paid for 40hrs/week when I was really working about 110-120.
There are PLEANTY of FP's and general surgeons making 60K a year and that's sh*t when you've got malpractice insurance that cost over 100K, school loans, etc.
Not all MDs are paid the same.

BTW, orthopods do make good money BUT they work like dogs.... especially trauma ortho.

I have to sympathize with the orthopod and trauma cases or general surgery for that matter. Even though I am relatively new to practice I have already refused to take trauma call and I no longer accept medicaid patients.

The concern in medicine is not necessarily the average salary but rather the extremely high risk associated with providing care to these patients.

I too have wondered many a time between midnight and 5 a.m. why I am having to deal with an uninsured, crack addicted, drug pushing patient that will never pay a bill but wouldnt hesitate to sue me.
Sorry, Had to rant.

MDs are in for a rude awakening when the insurance companies start controlling everything. a close friend of mine is in the health insurance business, the rumor is that the system is going to be "revamped" and high physician salaries are high on the list of targets to be "re-evaluated."

Maybe the insurance companies need to be reevaluating the high Lawyer fees and salaries they seem to be more than willing to pay. Anyone ever get the feeling that lawyers are taking over the world?

I also hope that there will be some "revamping" and new government regluation on what exactly insurance companies can and cannot do. Who would you want controlling what health care you receive.... a lawyer and insurance co. or a doctor? Besides who is really making out on this whole deal............
