I agree. the problem is usually attorneys and insurance companies.

Insurance companies have deep pockets. Deep pockets lead to a well funded lobby. A well funded lobby leads to "favorable" legislation.

High pysician salaries? Whaaaaat! You have got to be kidding. What about the HMO CEO that gets a 10million dollar bonous.
You know who is in for a rude awakening.......the american people. Due to high malpractice cost, more and more physicians are pulling up stakes and leaving. There are areas of the country without OB-GYN, Neurosurgery, Trauma Surgery and/or General Surgery. The American people are ones that will suffer...right along with MDs. Meanwhile, the CEOs are vacationing in Aruba.
BTW, when you figure in the amount of hours worked, insurance, opportunity cost, etc.... MDs don't make a killing.

Tenblande, Thanks for the advice!

ccarnel, I'm at SUNY Stony Brook, out on Long Island. Pretty cool spot, not too many distractions, and always 30 minutes from the beach

I'm getting a little antsy, not having a "plan" for the future. I'm going to try some shadowing this summer to get a feel for what's out there.

I was thinking about Ophtho because I do have an interest in surgical, procedure-oriented fields, but I don't think I'm cut out for the lifestyle of a general surgeon or the rigors of a general surgery residency. (Although I do think that surgery is one of the most interesting fields in all of medicine.) I might look into ENT too.

Have a good summer guys!
