Dick doc in O-town since 1993
did kidney transplants for 10 years(the group started in 1971)
group never sued in over 30 years related to kidney transplants(over 2000 of them) BUT
our malpractice carrier left the state as did most others
remaining carrier said "Hey you guys do transplants in private practice....we need to raise your rates from 14K per doc(9 of us) to 77k per doc" you know what 77 x 9 for 750k of malpractice coverage is?? Economically unviable
result : the only kidney transplant center in central Florida shut down for 4 months until the hospital hired 1 surgeon to replace the 9 of us!
now do robotic lap prostatectomies and drive an S
dont feel sorry for me

the first thing i thought about when i read that post was.. man... the porsche group has a Stevec that acts like a know it all prick like the one we have here... until i read and realized, it is the same guy!!!!

Stevec, i see you like jumping into things you know nothing about.

Medical Doctors are highly overpaid? If anything, emergency, rescue, and law enforcement, along with Doctors are the ones that are hugely underpaid. No one cares that AROD is making 250 million, but when a doctor charges what people consider too much, everyone is in an uproar.

If people feel that they are overpaying doctors, shop around. go to Mexico. what? you don't trust the doctors in Mexico? you get what you paid for.

Oh.. yeah.. Love ya Steve C.. I hope nothing happens to you, or if something does, you don't get stuck with a Doctor that is part of the Porsche Forum.

You are a sales person DKHL, I don't expect you to read very well -- but you would do well to at least not put words in my mouth. My original point on that thread was in response to the statement

"And I think all doctors are grossly underpaid."

Where I responded with

"I'd argue that many have historically been overpaid."

Note the use of many, not all -- and historically, not currently.

Carry on.

I have no earthly idea what you do, but you are sure not the brightest blub in the pack.
What is a blub?

Don't fret, I'm not "attacking you" -- but then that is a trend you started in the thread should others wish to follow.

It's hard to judge exactally what the focus of this discussion is, but I'm going to break it down to professional recognition vs. long hours vs. pay.

It's a dynamic that will never be perfect. There is no true judgement of success and countless people will continue to slander people that they personally deem as more successful than themselves. This judgment rising from countless reasons and based on a definition of success that is specific to the person.

Ultimately it simply comes down to how much you enjoy what you do. Regardless of whether you make 30k or 300k a year the satisfaction you receive from your daily routines is what will dictate the amount of time before you find yourself in a clocktower lining people up for "retribution".

I'm in my 10th year of college the things I'm doing now make the roads to my previous degrees look like a joke. Yet, I wont even try to compare my daily routine to anyone else who doesnt share lab space with me. Everyone's world is just different, and some people excel at different things. It's no more or less difficult it's just different. Put on someone else's shoes and you may trip and fall when you thought that you could simply throw these new shoes on and go for a nice jog.

Now the personal involvement to all of this is that I have decided that academia is where I want to be. I have and will turn down many lucrative private research positions. I will instead take a tenure track position at a university and plug away happily making 56k a year and working 65-70 hours a week until I get tenure in 5-8 years.

The point is that the hours and money only matter to a certain point. If your goal in life is to have a Enzo Ferrari then good luck, and keep on truckin' just be prepared to put in the time and effort it takes to reach that goal. My love is research and teaching others, tenblade has a drive for research and healing through surgery. We are both lucky because we have found our calling young so we can spend our lives looking forward to each work day with vigor.

So next time someone tries to challenge you to a contest of "I work harder" or "I make more money" just say:

"I come home from work everyday knowing that I am happy I have made myself what and who I am."

If you can honestly say that outloud and not laugh or feel like your lying to yourself then you win plain and simple.
