You need to set an appointment with the (brokerage) you plan on working with, when you pass the state exam you will be granted an interim license and then officially licensed only through the brokerage you plan on working with. Your license will be held by your broker... start looking or you won't be licensed.

The Director of the Real Estate Commission may allow you to bypass the 60 clock hours of real estate courses if he or she feels you satisfy the required 60 clock hours under certain exemptions.

Other than this, as long as you are to the age of majority (18), have successfully completed the 60 hours of required real estate courses, then all you need to do is pass the state exam...

This is all you need to know. Get in touch with a broker, Good luck.

what kind of questions do they ask for the state exam? i don't want to think that real estate agents don't need to know anything, but judging by the people i have worked with, I know as much, if not more than they do. and with the MLS tools, who needs agents..

Basically, it depends on the state. Here in NYC, they asked alot about mortgages, details on standard NYS leases, lead paint issues, handling commissions, and the correct way to price a house. pretty basic if u study.

Do you already have the salesman license and some years of experience? I don't know about NY state, but in PA, you cannot become a boraker untill you have been a salesman for a few years (i think 2 or 3 I can't remember the exact requiremtn) under a broaker. THEN, you have to take a couple more classes and pass the boraker's test.

Hit google for more research on your area or contact your local Real Estate Commission.

my dad is a realestate agent, and is currently working under a broker. i told him i was interested in geting my license, he gave me a thick book. told me to read it and tell him when i was ready to take the test. im not so sure about you having to take the courses. i think i might have the test too, but i have to check it out.
