a couple of my friends have it. one had surgery a couple of times...it probably helped a little but i don't think it fixed it completely or anything. my other friend has the fighter pilot mask...i think that worked for him but i don't think he really uses it.

all my friends that have it (that i know of) are either a little overweight or a lot.

If your concerned about feeling sleepy during the day speak to your doctor about perscribing you modafinil. Its basically an alertness pill and although im not overly satisfied with what i believe to be mild side effects it does work very well to improve alertness for extended periods.

The sleep study that I had done showed 600 interruptions in my sleep during an 8 hour period. My wifely unit insisted on the sleep study because I would quit breathing for long periods of time while I was sleeping. I use a CPAP now. I can still fall asleep at the computer, while watching television, talking to friends, etc. I am only about 50 lbs. overweight. Sleep apnea can cut your lifespan so do what you can to fix it.

my dad had to get surgery for his apnea and hasnt had any issues since.

i didnt know it shortens your life, maybe ill go try to get that sleep study.

does alcohol contribute to not breathing at night?

dont skinny people have sleep apnea as well?
Maybe, but if you didn't experience before you gained weight (or if you've always been overweight), then I'd think the best solution would be to lose the weight and see if that resolves the problem. Even if it doesn't solve sleep apnea, you'll be better off.

I know that a couple of years ago, I put on about 15 extra pounds and I started suffering from sleep apnea as well. I shaved the weight, and it stopped immediately, and I felt 100x better.

Lose the weight. Feel better.

Sleep apnea isn't always related to weight, though it is often a contributing condition. Skinny people get it as well.

The compliance rate for C-PAP uses is pretty bad over the long term. I think finding a mask that is comfortable is the key to long term use.

If you have sleep apnea and you don't use C-PAP, you can pretty much guarantee you will live a shorter life, especially if you have the normal symptoms associated with sleep apnea (daytime sleepiness, slow reflexes, poor concentration).

You should really get the sleep study done.

Alcohol does contribute to the issue, as it causes the throat muscles to relax more then usual.
