Honestly don't set traps in an evironment where there's other animals. they catch any thing.

On another note here's the bait recipe for coyote trapping. First you kill a skunk or two and open up the carcass. Then into a partially buried 15 gal drum you throw in the skunks fur an all, 5 pounds of sugar and fill it up 2/3rd of the way with water. Then you let it sit all summer. Use a hanger on a long pole and a small plastic bag to dip in and get it. then tie up the plastic bag. After you make the sets wait 3 days go back and throw the bag from downwind into the middle of the set.
Coyote love that stuff. They love skunks. It really really stinks but it works.
Here's a good sight with some other wonderful smelling recipes....

ps don't pour antifreeze outside it's poison to all animals and sweet. Puddles kills pets too.

We rented from a guy on Cape Cod a couple time. He had two pretty big labs. He was in the center of Chatham one winter day and a coyote attacked his dogs.

In short, house pets = protein pellets for coyote.

My dog is about 30-35 pounds. This coyote was fairly large. I thought it was a small german shepard when I first spotted it.

I like having wildlife around, don't want to kill the thing. Its kind of neat and can hang in my yard as long as it is not a threat. I stepped out onto the patio and this thing trotted past about 15 feet from my and I whislted and kept going "hey! HEY!" but once it passed it never looked back and never broke into a run. It seemed a little shy but not too scared of me.

The only reason I am concerned is a friend in a more ruural area had his lab get into a tussle with one (his dogs sleeps outdoors) and lost part of an ear. My dog is a 13 year old big baby. Keeshonds are just fuzzballs and scared of their own shadows.

Also keep in mind they may have rabies.

Had to put one of my ex girlfriends down beacuse she got bit by one that had rabies. She thought it was a stray dog.
I'd like to shake your hand. I've wanted to put down several of my ex girlfriends but never had the cojones.

Wow. With what did you kill her? The cops didn't mind? What'd her family say? What did your following girlfriends think of that? I'm sure it was quite the ice breaker around strangers...

"So...anyone else had to put their girlfriend down recently?"

they' take a 35 pound dog easy. They don't fight like dogs. A dog has no chance even a shepard. Coyotes are very efficient killers and if ones coming that close to you it's proably sick and looking for something easy.

They don't run like dogs either you probably noticed that when it ran.

good luck but sometimes having a predator that's not afraid around is not good

Get a dying rabbit call and a stuffed animal. Play the call away from your house and put it next to the stuffed animal. Take some fishing line and run the line to your hiding place. Twitch the line every now and again to simulate a dying rabbit. When the coyote comes, blast it. Coyotes do not fear anything and the dog will be toast. Don't let the dog outside by himself especially at night.

Ooooeeeee. Fermented skunk bait?! Ya'll must liv' in da' country.

Dingo ate my baby stories are just a tiny bit hyperbolic.

Keep your cat in the house. Small dogs deserve to be ripped to small pieces.

Run a goddamned sheep dog or lama with your lambs or calves. Kills me to see all these tards with a pair of australian sheperds on their trucks, but never in the fields.

Coyotes will kill dogs, most often avoid them, and mate with them often enough...aka coydogs. The only time to kill a coyote is if he is in the yard.
