The gf and I are thinking of heading to Tunica, Miss for a weekend. Just as a change of scenery for her birthday, since she likes the black jack. I just heard about it and checked it online.. Has anyone ever been there? The casino's look sort of nice, but are they? Is there anything to do other than gamble in that area? If Tunica isn't that great, any ideas for a short-ish trip (3-5 hours from Indy)? Not Chicago, Cincy, etc.. We've done all those "big city" trips.
Oh, and it's going to be at the end of Feb, if that matters..
Thanks all

I went to Tunica in '97. The casinos were ok. I'd rate it as an average or below junket. Of course it could be better now, but then it was just some large casinos in the middle of no where.
I like the Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods in CT much better...but they're a bit farther than Tunica. (BTW, Tunica can't be a 3-5 hour trip from Indy. It's 500 miles!
)
You could always drive to Detroit and cross over into Windsor, Canada. We did that once and it was ok.
You can sometimes get cheap flights to Vegas. Maybe I just had a bad weekend at Tunica, but I'd go to back to Vegas, Windsor, or CT before Tunica. You might get much better info from someone who has been to there more recently.

Youre' right though, Indy is actually like 6-6.5 hours (mapquest says).. but we are really looking for a very cheap trip, as we are taking a trip to Europe and then the Canaries later this year. So Vegas is probably out, though Windsor is not a bad idea.
My fiance has only won at the casinos (been like 3 times) so she thinks they are the greatest things. I've only lost, so I'll just go, drink and watch her play.
