Default Anyone chipped/mod their PS2?

I just chipped/mod my PS2 so I can play Japanese games... I tried to watch a regular DVD movie and it doesn't work now .. it worked before the mod. Anyone else had this problem? Thanks!

Hey Gunner,

What kind of error are you getting?

Does it say, "This disc cannot be played due to regional restrictions" or "Disc Read Error"?

Hi naomi-sarah,

When I load a movie in it just goes straight to the browser so I then click on the DVD icon to start it. The screen goes black and goes straight back to the browser. Any ideas??? Thanks!

You should've gotten a slide card instead, no saudering and you keep your warranty. You can play the burned and import games too. The chip obviously screwed you up. Try playing a burned DVD, preferably -R format and see what happens, if it doesnt work then try the +R burned DVD. Do yourself a favor and get the slide card, its comes with something called the Magic combo with the Software included

You might need to clean the laser. The PS2 tends to get dusty, and that can cause problems like this.

Immediately after I chipped my PS2, it could no longer read movie DVDs, but could play games just fine. I also suspected the chip. But cleaning my PS2 with a can of compressed air solved the problem. Strange but true.

If you're unable to solve the problem, then try the forums on this site:

a slide card? how do you get one of those?

My mom brought back tons of DVD's from region 2 and 3 that i can't play. the cheapest way would be for me to mod the PS2 to play them.

Well, finally went back to the guys who did it and asked... everything worksjust fine. Apparently there is a special to load up the disk now.

Hey cyber-x, try this (at less it worked for me)

For reguler games - just load the disk and hit reset.
For dup/Japanese games - load disk, hold the reset button till it turns red, let go, and push/let go the reset again.
For DVD movies (dup/regular store bought, legit) - load disk, hold the reset button till it turns red, let go, hold the reset button again till the eject light turns blue. then the movie should load.
