I just drank a fair amount of Staroplzensky brand absinthe and it just made me drunk. Not the same normal drunk, I feel a little different, but overall i feel like i have drank drain cleaner. Any suggestions for better absinthe?

 

Isn't absinthe supposed to have a halucenagenic affect?

 

They don't make real absinthe anymore (the real stuff contains Wormwood, which is what supplies the halucenagenics properties). At least, they don't make it in N. America anyways. I believe you can still get toned-down versions of the real stuff in the Czech Republic, and other such countries.

 

They still can be found in the remote parts of Europe

You can make some yourself. Most people do not add the wormwood anymore because it can make you really sick if used incorrectly. All the ingredients are available on the open market including the wormwood. Wican stores are the most common place of purchase.

 

My friend made some....made it perfectly....even picked the leaves off a real worm wood plant, extracted the wormwood juice, and distilled it all of everclear, giving it a 98% alcohol content.

He was saving me some but drank the whole batch before I got there ( a few friends helped), he said it was a wierd and wild expressiance....said like being on mushrooms....and drunk....kinda.

 

Very late at night at XM1 (UK, S2KI Christmas Pissup) someone produced a bottle (the real stuff) and we started drinking it from the cap .... it made me want to puke.

I was very impressed with one of the girls who managed two large gulps straight from the bottle

 

I had some last week in SE Asia - nothing to write home about.
