I lived in the clearwater area (across the bridge) for 30 years before moving to Utah.. Were are you going to work Tampa or St. Petersburg... I really never cared for Tampa itself But I'm still a season ticket holder for the Tampa Bay Bucs.. If you don't mined the Weather (hot & humid) then you'll like it.. Tell me what you want to know

I just moved FROM the Clearwater area. I was there for 4 1/2 years and spent the last 4 years of that trying to get out. The traffic is horrid, the state DOT is doing scant little to do anything about it, and the Tampa Bay area is rated #2 in the nation for road rage. Traffic is so bad that for any suspected injury in a car accident, they usually call out a helicopter rather than an ambulance. I can't tell you how many times I heard about someone Bayflited to the hospital and released 2 hours later! That tells me that they don't even want to bother with trying to get an ambulance in and out of the accident scene much more so than the logic of life-threatening injury being a factor.

I left a lot that I held dear when I left Tampa because I was intensely unhappy there. There's a lot more to add to this, but in the interest of keeping it short, I don't recommend moving there, if you have the choice.

There are 3 Bayflite helicopters, 2 LifeFlight (I think that's what they're called, they are Tampa General's), and maybe more for other hospitals. Even scarier is that one of the Bayflite copters crashed about 8 months ago!

This: http://www.statefarm.com/media/danpress00/florida.htm was reason enough for me not to ever want to go back, though the reasons are far more numerous than this list. Consider that some states have NO listings for dangerous intersections, but Florida has 10 (they are assigned a score based on the number of accidents and severity, so some states get none if there aren't any with big scores). FOUR of those 10 are in the Tampa Bay area!

Lived in St. Petersburg for a couple of years and worked in Tampa. The commute was really bad, any accident on the bay bridge caused backups for hours. St. Pete and Clearwater are nice but Tampa is pretty bad. I also lived in Orlando for 10 years and that is one place that you do not want to live! Way to much traffic for a sane person. Tourist and blue hairs make the roads dangerous. I have been stuck in traffic on the south side of Orlando and spent about 2 1/2 hours to travel just 30 miles to the north side.

My ex has nothing to do with why I disliked Tampa so much... in fact, he's the reason I stayed as long as I did.

Just wanted to clarify that point so that it didn't seem biased toward that.

I'm a big fan of Tampa. I went to college in North Tampa @ USF.

It would be one of the places I would consider living other than New Jersey.

I will however; concur with what others have posted about the traffic situation. It is a real mess, and if I had to commute daily for any distance I would go nuts. There is no real public transportation available and the highways and roads seem to be vastly inadequate for the volume of cars at peak hours.
