AR-15
There has been a rumor going around about the California assault weapon ban having expired recently. I'm not sure how this will affect me in wanting to build a California legal ar-15. From what I understand there were two major problems with wanting an AR in CA. One was that you had to buy an "off list" lower receiver. Second was that you could not have a removable clip with certain characteristics of a rifle. There are magazines that are removable with handy tools, but still considered fixed magazines by the law. Does any one know anything about the ban expiration, and if it will have any affect on these restrictions?
Also for those of you who now about AR systems, can you please give me any pointers or recommendations on parts. I'm going to end up spending a little cash on this, so I want it to be a nice rifle that I'm gonna keep forever. I want it to be light, accurate, and reliable. So here are some questions that I have...
1. What is the best lower receiver in your opinion? I know this is the key part in the rifle, and the part that has to be registered. Also, what is the best trigger system for it?
2. I'm thinking I should go with a long stroke piston system instead of a regular full gas system. This sounds like the key issue with ar 15 reliability.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on all of this. Also if there is a full kit available that you would highly recommend...
TIA

I'm a big fan of mid-length gas systems on a 16" barrel. What you posted looks to be carbine length. Benefits are smoother recoil, longer sight radius, and are theoretically easier on internals. Basically, the gas port is further up the barrel..
you should also look into whether or not you can even have a bayonet lug on the gun. I suspect you can't.

If it's now legal, good deal (although I suspect it's not). Best upper anywhere for sale right now is Bravo Company USA' midlength with 16" barrel. I'd add a M16 bolt carrier group (also BCM). Regarding pistons: unless you're shooting a SBR or suppressed, you're good with direct impingement. This is coming from a piston gun owner, BTW. Have fun!
