The DD BCG is good to go. Yes, you can retrofit a piston system later...but I'm willing to wager that you won't need it.
Time to start looking at some lower receivers, internals, and stock options. lol anything you wanna recommend in this section?
Here is my Delton out of South Carolina. Pretty basic stuff with a flat top receiver, quad rail, rubber trigger grip and vertical grip. The best, and most simple thing I would suggest is getting a good mag (Heckler&Koch in my case) that has a follower that stays in the same position all the way down the mag well. The cheap surplus mags are crap.

Thanks for all your help. I ordered that upper, DD BCG, and a BCM charging handle.

I think Kaiser Defense makes great lowers. Good price, great machining, and made in San Diego, California.
And the Raddlock is the one to get IMO. It's easy to use normally, and quick to change to rimfire or out-of-California mode.
I am a big fan of the Geissele trigger. I have the SR, but would definitely get the DMR for a fun gun. They are pricey but feel amazing.
Stockwise, make sure the fully collapsed setting has an overall length of 30" or longer. Again, know your laws.
BTW, posting from a Blackberry sucks...webz down at work for up to a week! Congrats on buying the upper and a proper BCG. When you get around to optics, try Aimpoint's Micro line. For.mounts/rings, you can't do better than Larue. Also, you can't beat Magpul for everything from rail covers (XTM's rock!), stocks (a UBR would be perfect on your middie build), and if "Kali" fixes their laws, buy as many PMAG's as you can afford. Finally, get a decent BUIS from Troy (folding) or Larue (fixed).
Post pics when you get a chance. I'm doing the same build as my next project.

I'll post pics as soon as the stuff ships. I know some of these parts get stuck for a while...

Have you been reading calguns.net as suggested? There's even a nice little assault rifle pdf flow chart on calguns. The repercussions of having a contraband assault weapon are immense. Know the laws.
